The house
A turreted castle in parkland and old woodland in rural Aberdeenshire, about twenty-five minutes from Aberdeen airport. Its oldest parts are medieval, with Georgian and Victorian additions layered on, and it has been the home of one family for more than nine centuries.
Eight bedrooms take up to sixteen guests, most with their own bathroom and two pairs sharing. The rooms are papered and hung with family portraits: a library with an open fire, a yellow drawing room, a panelled dining room and a modern kitchen.
Maid service, firewood and wifi are part of the rent. The house keeps a small roster of private chefs who cook for up to sixteen, from breakfasts and lunches to three-, four- or five-course dinners, and butlers can be added. Archery, stalking, foraging, whisky tastings and bushcraft are run on the estate, and the golf of the north-east coast is within reach.
