The house
A large modern chalet on the slope across the valley from the Chamonix massif, built of pale timber, stone and long walls of glass so that the glaciers and needles fill almost every room. In winter it is let only as a whole house.
It is laid out around three big living areas, each with a log fire, plus a TV snug, a library, a games room and a cinema; a long dining table sits against the glass. There is also a boardroom with video conferencing, which suits a working retreat. The wellness floor has a six-metre heated pool with jets that looks out at the mountains, a sauna with a glass wall, a jacuzzi, two massage rooms and a gym. Twelve bedrooms and a three-bed bunk room, all with their own bathrooms, sleep up to twenty-four; ten face the summit and each has a balcony or terrace. A lift serves the floors, one bedroom is adapted for wheelchair users, and there is a helipad and a garage for six cars.
A chalet manager, a private chef, hosts and housekeepers run the house, with a driver on request. Catering is full: breakfast, afternoon tea and a four-course dinner on five days, with spirits, house wines and beer included.
