The house
A 43-acre private island in the British Virgin Islands, a few minutes by boat from Tortola, looking out over the Sir Francis Drake Channel and fourteen surrounding islands. It is taken whole by one party. Walking trails cross the hilltop, there are white-sand beaches with hammocks and shaded loungers, and the reef just offshore is good for snorkelling.
Five houses are spread across the island, built of stone and timber under thatched and shingled roofs to sit quietly in the landscape, with seventeen bedrooms between them. The main house stands on the summit with a circular infinity pool looking down the channel; there is a second infinity pool with a long walkway over the water, a beach gym, an open-air fire pit and long tables set out on the terraces for group dinners. Bedrooms mix carved wood, woven lamps and rugs with large windows and outdoor bathtubs facing the sea.
The stay is all-inclusive. The island's own team includes an island concierge and hosts, chefs who cook a largely plant-led menu, housekeeping, a wellness director and spa therapists, water-sports instructors and garden staff. Meals, drinks including alcohol, water sports and private airport transfers are part of the rate.
