The house
A tall rose-coloured villa on the hillside above Positano, reached by around 150 steps from the street or by the town's public lift, with the beach, the domed church and the whole sweep of the bay laid out below its terraces.
Vine-covered pergolas run along wide tiled terraces, with sofas and long tables set for dining in the open air; higher up there are lawns, a lemon garden and an infinity pool with fringed umbrellas looking straight down the coast. Indoors the rooms are vaulted and painted, hung with old pictures and lined with hand-made majolica tiles, with sitting rooms, a dining room and a tiled kitchen with a wood oven. The twelve bedrooms each have their own bathroom.
A housekeeper, a cook and a waiter are included for breakfast and one other meal each day, with continental breakfast laid on, and a chef's welcome dinner on weekly stays. Gardeners and a pool attendant keep the grounds; porters carry luggage up from the street at set hours.
